LEJOG day 15: Midsomer Norton to Bath

Today's little saunter took me through the 250-mile barrier, which I feel is worth celebrating!

I had a late start this morning and sauntered all day, never really feeling like I was getting anywhere much. The first section, from my B&B up to Midsomer itself, was all relatively uneventful side-of-the-road walking, except for one point where my external monologue probably got overheard rather by another human- the secret's out!

I bought rather a lot of food at the supermarket, then strode off in the general direction of the Limestone Link, which I found easily enough, and then immediately lost again- when I found the thing, it seemed to run straight through someone's back garden, so I abandoned that and went around on the road to re-join it further along. It again declined to hold my hand and I did a bit of a wander through a local nature reserve, which wasn't where I was supposed to be, before turning back and working my way around again, only to be led straight through someone else's back garden. I was less than impressed, and then the darn thing tried to lose me again at an unlabelled sharp left turn before a bridge which I would definitely have missed had I not had my phone out the precise correct moment, quite by chance.

After all that, though, it took me a slightly roundabout but overall pleasant route through to Monkton Combe, where I climbed an unimaginably steep hill and rapidly found myself in a suburb of Bath, then walked through Prior Park before climbing down a relentless 11% gradient to reach the youth hostel. Of course, I had to climb back up again to reach the reception.

The only objection I had to today was the two fields containing herds of young bulls, which I could have done without. The rest was unobjectionable, if not terribly exciting. But tomorrow is another day off , exploring Bath with Hector, hurrah!

Distance: 15.54 miles
Time: 5h16
Percentage complete: 21.7%
Boot cost per mile: £0.36
Lunch: salmon and cucumber sandwich, doritos, fruit juice, and a KitKat
Last night's B&B: 2 Whitfield Cottages, just outside Midsomer Norton. Lovely hostess, and the room is actually an entirely self-contained annexe by a pond with a fountain, all very nice
