LEJOG day 36: Horton-in-Ribblesdale to Hawes
With a route that's planned to take me 71 days to complete, I'm just over the halfway mark in terms of time; this was the last day of walking in the seventh week since I left Land's End on Easter Monday. It was also my last day walking with Sarah, because she maintains a better pretence than I do of being a Proper Adult with a job and responsibilities to return to on Monday.
We took it easy and slow today and the route was thankfully pretty on board with this plan, too, with no dramatic climbs and only one tricky-ish descent on a rough path right at the end. The weather was nice, warm but breezy and until the last hour I didn't feel like I would particularly need a shower on arrival- the descent into the valley and Hawes did for that, though.
Today and yesterday we bumped into JOGLErs just before lunch, and if you avoid finding out when they left John O'Groats that really adds to the sense of being midway there (I'm watching people who started after me at Land's End finish, thanks to the joy of social media).
My feet and joints appear to be back playing the game, which is a relief- I've got two tough days ahead of me at the beginning of next week so long may it last.
Distance walked: 13.82 miles
Time taken: 5h41
Percentage complete: 49.4%
Miles per £1 of boot: 4.51
Walking days since I was last rained on: 1
Lunch: two rounds of ham sandwiches, a packet of crisps, a flapjack and a crunchie; I had a banana and several cola Colins for snacks
Last night's B&B: The Golden Lion, Horton-in-Ribblesdale: lovely comfy beds and a spanking new bathroom as in the Carriage House, pub accommodation in the North is proving to be better than in the Midlands
