LEJOG day 1: Land's End to Penzance
Well, at the very least I'll always be able to say I started! Having successfully avoided causing significant injury in any way over the past two weeks (enthusiastic dancing on the smooth kitchen floor in socks was a particularly hazardous occupation), my parents drove me to Penzance yesterday with barely any complaint at all. We settled in at our B&B, happened to find an excellent restaurant for dinner where I sensibly chose mussels, because those never gave anyone a problem, and this morning we were robbed blind at the entrance to the car park for the "Land's End Attraction", which is technically free to enter thanks to the extortionate cost of parking.

We attempted to pose some photos so my head blocked out another family's message - because you have to pay £10 for an "official" photo, when you can choose the message - and then enacted a tearful goodbye, which might have been more heartfelt if they weren't staying in Penzance tonight and meeting me for dinner again.
The walk itself was rather nice- my very own coast-to-coast, except at a point where the peninsula is only 10 miles across so not all that impressive. I walked a little of the South West Coast path then veered inland along mostly well-signposted bridle- and footpaths via Sancreed to Penzance. A few of the paths were a little overgrown and I wouldn't have liked to walk it in the wet but overall it was a pleasant few hours to kick off this ridiculous enterprise.
